Lifestyle: Thanksgiving Dinner, Don’t forget the beverages!

by / Monday, 19 November 2012 / Published in INSPIRATION STATION, Lifestyle

Last week, I mentioned that I’d be hosting the family Thanksgiving meal this year and gave you a glimpse of our menu.  This week I wanted to include beverages.

Sweetened Iced tea is a staple at our table, along with wine, but his year I want to add a signature cocktail to the menu.

Apple Tea

Try this Chilled apple tea for a twist on the traditional recipe

Here are a few cocktails that just might measure up for the perfect signature drink.

I’m looking forward to this slow cooker recipe.  I’m already imagining the aromatic nuances wafting in the air.

Pear and Cranberry BelliniThis one can easily become a mocktail, by replacing the sparkling wine with seltzer or ginger ale.  Here’s the link for the recipe

One more thing:  As a bonus, I am sharing my mom’s famous oyster fritter recipe.  If you read last week’s post, I mentioned how super tasty these are.  She read my post and decided to let me share it with my readers.  If you get the chance to make them, I’d love to hear how they turned out!

Mom’s Oyster Fritters

I qt Standard Oysters (drain and reserve liquid)
I cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4/tsp garlic powder
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1 TBSP dry mustard
1 TBSP finely minced onion
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Blend all dry ingredients in a medium size bowl, gradually whisk the dry ingredients into the large bowl of oyster liquid; gently fold in the oysters,
minced onion, and Worcestershire sauce. Drop tablespoons of batter into hot
oil (deep fryer), being sure to have an oyster in each spoonful. Fry until golden brown. Drain fried oysters on a wire rack…enjoy.

“At my house they never make it to the table, folks gather around the counter and grab them as they are draining on the rack.” – mom
