Color Fabulous: Before and After Paint Consult, and a little about our process

by / Friday, 25 January 2013 / Published in Color Crush, INSPIRATION STATION

Each week we do a color feature hi-lighting color trends and how they resonate in our daily lives.   Today we look at the results of a recent paint consultation, and things to consider when updating your paint colors.

As many of you know paint can have a profound affect in your space.

It’s why it’s so important to choose colors that resonate with you and express how you want to feel in your space.

We recently did a paint consult for a couple who have a beautiful home.  The walls in their home were actually quite nice; however the paint choices were the selections from the previous home owners and just didn’t sit well with them.

They wanted a warmer, more inviting space...

So we introduced a new color palette that raised the temperature in the room and gave them the warmer space they desired.

There are a number of things to consider when updating the paint in your home.  If you’re working with someone, make sure you discuss the following…

Our Paint Consultations look a little like this:

  1. We learn what your favorite colors are and which ones you shy away from
  2. We learn what type of mood you desire or how you want to “feel” in your space (you might want a sophisticated living room, but a sensual bedroom)
  3. We take photos of the space, to make sure color selections coordinate with what you currently have
  4. We find out if the home is a long term home or a short term one (important because if a home is going on the market soon, it’s important to stick to colors that have a broad appeal).  If it’s your home forever, then go for what feels right, as long as it’s something that you won’t tire of in 6 months. 🙂
  5. We also provide recommendations for color combinations that work well together
  6. High traffic areas or rooms that don’t get much attention are important when considering both paint colors and finishes.   For instance, if you have adorable little people in your home a flat finish, and white paint is not your friend.  🙂

What we used in the space

We used the lightest hue throughout the space, the bold red to emphasize the room’s focal point, and we gave a subtle nod to the angled features (ceiling) with the deeper middle tone.

The tools we use

Paints and stains from the  Sherwin Williams collection are brought to each appointment

Templates help to guide your choices

…and if there are current savings coupons, we bring those too
